The History of the Event in Bangor at Mansfield Stadium
Since 2002, Mansfield Stadium has had the privilege of hosting the Senior Little League World Series right here in Bangor, Maine. Senior Little League is the 15-16 year old division of Little League Baseball. The tournament involves ten teams coming from five United States regions, four International champions from Canada, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Europe/Middle East/Africa, along with the Maine District Three host team. 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of Mansfield Stadium hosting this prestigious tournament, and the event will remain in Bangor as long as it can be financially supported. We are making the event bigger and better each year, and we hope to be able to bring it back to Bangor for many years to come. The first round of the tournament is played in pools. The teams are divided into two pools for the first five days of the tournament, with each team playing four games. The top two teams in each pool will continue on to the semi-final round to be held on Friday, August 19, 2011.
After the semi-final games have been played, we recognize the outstanding work of each of the teams in an awards banquet, to be held on Friday evening. Here, teams are awarded with their Regional Championship trophies, and the two teams that are playing in the championship game are recognized. The Championship Game will be played on Saturday, August 20, 2011. ESPN will televise the Championship game. Date, time, and station information will follow. |
